Ten drowned and two went missing after a boat capsized in Sultan sa Barongis town in Maguindanao province. Mayor Allandatu Angas said the boat was caught in a marsh during strong winds and overturned around 6 p.m. Monday in the Liguasan Marsh.

According to Mayor Angas, ten bodies were recovered Tuesday, including two children. All the victims are reportedly related.

The bodies were identified as Panunggo Kudtog, 63; Baikong Kudtog, 30; Paano Kudtog, 7; Montoki Kudtog, 9; and Seno Blah, 40, all residents of Barangay Kudal, Pagalungan, Maguindanao.

“Yet, we’re still hoping we could find them,” Angas said. “The search and rescue operations are still ongoing.”

Reportedly, six of the passengers have survived the incident that happened on the surface of the marsh at the tri-boundary of Maguindanao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat provinces.

Mayor Angas said the ship was overloaded with passengers who were on their way home to Pagalungan town after attending a family gathering in nearby Sultan sa Barongis town.
