The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has introduced a revised set of rules for the upcoming presidential elections. ECP has barred the lawmakers from carrying mobile phones and other electronic gadgets that could potentially breach the secrecy of votes.
The lawmakers of Pakistan will elect their new president on Tuesday, July 30. The ECP has warned all the participants from taking any voting evidence such as pictures or snapshots to prove their loyalty to their leaders. The Commission is determined to keep the voting process smooth and transparent.
On Monday, ECP underlined the essence of Article 12 of the Second Schedule of the Constitution, which emphasizes the need for secrecy of the election.
“The Chief Election Commissioner/Returning Officer has directed that the presiding officers for the presidential election shall ensure that the secrecy of the ballot is not violated through any mode whatsoever by the voters and has also imposed ban upon members of parliament and all provincial assemblies for taking with them mobile phone or any other electronic device, through which picture can be taken, in the premises of the polling station, assembly chamber, by the members of parliament and the members of the provincial assemblies on July 30, the day of elections,” said the ECP in a statement.
The Commission has almost completed all the necessary arrangements for tomorrow’s poll. Up to 1,500 ballot papers have been printed and dispatched.
