Codiac RCMP are investigating the death of a man and a fire in a downtown Moncton building where his body was found on November 21, 2013.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed smoke coming out of a building at the corner of Gordon and Elm Street. The police gained entry to the vacant two and a half story building but, because of the smoke, had to retreat before completing an exhaustive search. Around 4:20 a.m., the firefighters advised that they had discovered the body of a man.

The investigation into the circumstances of the fire and the cause of the death of the 55-year-old man is ongoing. An autopsy will be performed today. The identity of the victim will not be released at this time.
