Lillian Allen a grassroots artist, cultural activist and university professor is considered a godmother of rap, hip-hop, dub and spoken word. Her work is used across the educational spectrum, encompassing alternate learning contexts from kindergarten to post graduate studies. Lillian’s highly crafted and empowering poetics forges a contemporary sensibility and springs from a deep well of understanding and rooted knowledge about the cares, struggles, hopes, dreams and the possible futures of women, men and young people – of the textured multiverses we inhabit. Themes of transformation and incisive perspective lace the body of her work. and music by Mark Martyre Mark Martyre is a Canadian writer and musician. In September 2012 he released his latest, full-length album, Down, Record, to critical acclaim. Upon hearing the album, and seeing Mark in concert, Carolina Smart (a music reviewer from Lipstik Indie) wrote, Mark Martyre is a true story teller, whose words flow on a poetic river and a well rounded musician who masters the art of captivating an audience. Anyone who is a fan of Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits will immediately fall in love with this album.” Mark has been engaging audiences with his lyrics and introspective songs, and his live performances have also garnered attention and praise from other notable songwriters such as Stephen Stanley, and Peter Katz, who said that Mark has, fantastic lyrics, and that, he clearly has a really warm soul and a passion for writing and music. In addition to his latest solo album, he has also published two books of poetry and prose Wondering Down the Road (2008) and Drifting Magentically (2009), and had some of his works printed in arts and culture magazines. Mark released two studio albums with Montague Street in 2009, and 2010, and released 6 live records in 2011. Mark is currently working on a new full-length album, scheduled to be released in November 2013.
