In a statement issued by the RCMP, it revealed to have had two Mounties injured during a violent encounter at a rural property near Vegreville, east of Edmonton, on Monday night. It was explained that one officer was shot, though now in stable condition, while another was run over by a vehicle, and received serious injuries. Conclusively, one woman is in custody while two male suspects are contained on a site, reportedly a farmhouse.
Chief Supt. Randy McGinnis elucidated that the RCMP received a complaint of a death threat at about 2 p.m., where a man was threatened by another man that he will break into his house and kill him. Later on, the RCMP was informed of a break-in at a nearby farmhouse from where firearms were stolen, and the suspect’s vehicle was matched to one reported in original complaint. The vehicle was quickly tracked at a third residence, from where the suspects attempted to dive off in a stolen truck, but were stuck in snow. Consequently, the male suspect began shooting at officers, who returned fire.
The second officer who was run over is seriously hurt and receiving treatment at an Edmonton hospital, with broken bones and internal injuries. McGinnis explained that “when we have individuals going out and doing a series of break and enters, and accumulating guns and property, unfortunately these are the events that sometimes happen,” while adding that ”I just hope that everyone walks away from the scene alive.”
