The GTA is now entering yet another deep freeze on Monday night as the temperature nosedive once again due to a sharp Arctic cold front that has engulfed almost the entire region by a winter storm. Since wind chills are predicted to bring the temperature as low as -41 overnight, Environment Canada has steadfastly issued a wind chill warning, while the City of Toronto is specially placed under an extreme cold weather alert in order to increase services for the homeless.

The agency believes that the cold front will bring the same teeth-chattering temperatures and wind chills that the GTA received last week. Later on Tuesday morning, the temperature is anticipated to retract back to -25 C overnight, though with bitter wind chills it will feel more like -38 to -41. The cold front is foremost prompted by the winter storm that brought snow, freezing rain and rain on Sunday night and early Monday morning. Consequently, the motorists were compelled to cope with a flash freeze that left a layer of ice over many roads and sidewalks.

As a result of the ice, extremely tricky driving conditions were encountered by motorists throughout the region as students headed back to school and many people returned to work after the Christmas break. The peak hours of the morning commute led to several crashes or vehicles that skidded off the road. According to a spokesperson of the Ontario Provincial Police officers, they responded to approximately one call every two minutes in the GTA alone.
