On Wednesday, January 8, 2014, shortly after midnight, York Regional Police responded to 172 Centre Street East for reports of gunshots. When police arrived they located a vehicle in the parking lot with three victims inside, two males and one female, suffering from gunshot wounds. The female was deceased at the scene while the two males were transported to hospital. One man succumbed to his injuries while the second male remains in critical condition.

Through investigation, the deceased male has been identified as Premier Hoang, 18, of the City of Brampton. The deceased female, who was 15 years old, is a relative of the surviving victim, a 20-year-old man from Brampton, and we will not be releasing her name in order to protect his identity.

Post-mortem examinations are set to be conducted today to determine the cause of death.

Investigators believe that at least two male suspects are responsible and they remain at large. This incident is not believed to be a random act.

Update: The identity of the surviving victim, a 20-year-old man from Brampton, will not be released by police. However, with the permission of the victims’ family, the deceased female is being identified as Brenda Pathammavong, 16, also of Brampton.

The Pathammavong family is requesting privacy at this time but has released the following statement: “Brenda’s family and friends are devastated by this tragedy. Brenda was a positive, selfless young woman who deeply loved her family. Although she was the youngest in the family, her family and their needs were always her first priority. Her family and friends will greatly miss Brenda’s always-present bright smile, giggles, intelligence and sass.”

Post-mortem examinations began yesterday and are expected to continue today in order to determine the cause of death.

Investigators believe this was a drug-related crime and that the suspects and victims may have known each other.

They do not believe that this was a random act. However, members of York Regional Police realize that this crime is devastating for the families and friends of the victims and is upsetting to the members of our communities.
