Meet Me in St. Louis stars Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien, Mary Astor and Lucille Bremer — all learning important lessons in life and love as their family plans an unwelcome move to New York in the year before the 1904 St Louis World’s Fair. Directed by Vincent Minnelli (who married Garland the following year), this gem was one of MGM’s biggest hits in its day and features Garland’s unforgettable renditions of “The Trolley Song” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” In Going My Way, Bing Crosby is Father Chuck O’Malley, a progressive young priest sent to New York City in order to replace the elderly Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald) at a struggling parish. Touching, sentimental and entertaining, this film took home seven Academy Awards — including Best Picture, Best Actor (Crosby), Best Supporting Actor (Fitzgerald) and Best Original Song for “Swinging on a Star.”
