On opening day of second test match, Stuart Broad became the first England player to take two Test hat-tricks as he struck across two overs against Sri Lanka on Friday.
He took the precious wicket of Kumar Sangakkara for 79 when the batsman sent the ball to Ian Bell at gully with the final delivery of Broad’s 12th over at Headingley.
In Broad’s 13th over, he quickly dismissed Dinesh Chandimal for 45 and Shaminda Eranga (0).
Afterwards, the hosts successfully wrapped up the Sri Lankan team at 257 in their 1st innings and also began their 1st innings calmly by scoring 36 for no loss at stumps.
At day’s close, Alastair Cook was on 14 and Sam Robson on 21 with the trail of 221 runs.
