Annapolis fire officials have alleged that the dangerous search mission for a missing technology executive, ScienceLogic COO Don Pyle, and his five family members, after a suspicious fire destroyed a mansion in Annapolis, Maryland, might even take days. According to the company spokesperson, Antonio Piraino, the search is being hampered due to the extensive size of the 16,000-square-foot waterfront mansion house while those inside are feared dead.

Pyle was believed to have been at home with his wife, Sandy, and four grandchildren. Anne Arundel County Fire Capt., Robert Howarth, reiterated that the size of the structure and the fact that three-fourths of the building had collapsed into the basement has generated heaps of deep-seeded debris that is still smoldering and compounding the search. Leading the investigation along with a team from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Howarth stated that “you’re looking at five standard houses put together,” adding that “this is more of commercial fire than it is a residential fire. There are a lot of businesses that aren’t 16,000 square feet. That adds to it.”

CNN affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington confirmed that Pyle had not been heard from since Monday, while his colleagues at ScienceLogic were “hoping for a miracle.” The fire officials were not able to search the still-burning ruins so heavy machinery has been sought in the next 12 hours to aid in the search for victims and clues. Howarth alleged that “we have some very unique challenges with this house,” adding that “the construction of the house contained a lot of very heavy materials. We’re looking at some steel beams that weigh in the area of 7 tons.”
