On Monday, February 21st, 2011, the Winnipeg Police Service released information requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 73 year old female, Elizabeth LAFANTAISIE. A description of LAFANTAISIE, including her vehicle was released at that time.

On February 24th, 2011, at approximately 2:30 p.m., LAFANTAISIE’S parked vehicle was located in the area of River Avenue and Lewis Street. Upon examination, her body was located within the trunk of the vehicle.

Homicide and Missing Persons Unit investigators initiated a complex and challenging investigation that included canvassing over 1000 suites and seizing volumes of surveillance video from multiple sources.

As this investigation continued, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Identification Unit identified forensic evidence linking a suspect in this incident.

On Monday, February 28th, 2011, a 25 year old male was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder.

The autopsy has been concluded and the cause of death has been attributed to strangulation.
