Infamous Democrat Andrea Horwath summarized her party’s strategy to freeze tuition fees and reduce interest on the provincial portion of academic loans. The entire cost of both strategies is $110 million at the initial stages of an NDP mandate, rising to $365 million in the fourth year, officials say.

According to NDP, by reducing the provincial interest on loans, it would save roughly around $60 each year for a student with $25,000 of debt.

Andrea Horwath says, “Ontario is now the most expensive province for a post-secondary education. We need change. Post-secondary education is increasingly out of reach in Ontario. In a global economy, our prosperity as a province will be measured by the quality of our education system and by how accessible that system is. People are tired of politicians who say anything to get elected. We have a plan to make education affordable that won’t vanish after the election.”

On the other hand, Liberals say their administration would offer fresh scholarship grants of $1,600 per university student and $730 per college student each year. Moreover, the eligibility requirements include students belonging to families below incomes of $160,000.
