Well-known Melbourne QC Julian Burnside has made an apology to the Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, after implying that he was a paedophile on a social networking site, Twitter.

Mr. Burnside was taking part in an active debate on Twitter regarding a book about Mr. Abbott written by academic Susan Mitchell, which is incredibly critical of the Opposition Leader.

He shared a link to a story about the book and then commended Dr Mitchell’s Tony Abbott: A Man’s Man. QC wrote: “I have read this book. Abbott is a dangerous man with no moral compass. It’s a great book. Abbott will lead the country back to the dark ages.”

Around 15000 people follow QC Julian Burnside’s tweets.

Later a public tweet from Mr. Burnside read: ”paedos in speedos”.

The tweets somehow seemed like they were targeted at the Opposition Leader, which the QC clarified saying, “It was not a reference to him.”

After realizing his mistake, QC said: “This is unprompted apology to #Abbott. He is NOT a paedophile and I was not referring to him. He has many flaws but that is not one of them.” After uploading the tweet, Mr. Burnside also got in touch with Mr. Abbott’s office in order to apologize utterly.
