That was one of the more emotional games I’ve been a part of. One minute you’re down going into the third and looking for a spark and we get four quick ones, then they come back and tie it up. They had the same kind of period. It was nice to come out on the right end of it.

On the tight-checking game early on:

The first two periods were for sure. I’m sure with the big stage and everything people wanted to take care of the puck. We certainly did that and it paid off.

On having a multi-point game in the Centennial Classic:

That was awesome. To be a part of that game winner too, to be on the ice for it, that’s something me and my family will remember forever and I’ll cherish.

On playing in his first outdoor game:

My first one was at Michigan, I played outdoors at Michigan so that was cool. This is a whole new level; this is in my hometown. I never thought I’d be playing in a game like this and then you’re in the game and it’s just like you’re playing another game, but it’s not. It’s awesome and it’s a lot of fun. For Auston, he has 20 goals now, I think he had a lot of fun too and a lot of success. He had a great game and it’s just fun to play with him.

On if Matthews ever surprises him on the ice at this point:

No, I don’t think I’m surprised anymore. When you have a shot like he does and a skillset where he’s able to get open and take as many shots as he does – it’s hard to get that many shots and he’s able to generate tons of shots. With his shot he’s going to score a lot of goals. It’s been great.

On Matthews scoring the winner:

Obviously he played well all night, he was getting chances and then to get a big goal like that, you don’t want to call it a storybook but you may as well, right?

On this season compared to past seasons:

This is different than anything I’ve ever gone through. I think we have a great feeling going on in this room, we have lots of confidence with the people we have here. That being said – we’re a closer group than I’ve ever seen. That might have to do with the age, that might have to do with the guys being together for a bit longer. It’s a great feeling going on right now and we’re trying to do everything we can to make sure that were going to keep it going and make sure we keep rolling.
