A 22-year-old Ontario man has been charged with the murder of his 58-year-old mother, says York Regional Police Tuesday. The son allegedly stabbed his mother to death in King Township.

Early Tuesday around 8a.m., 911 were called to a residence near Sideroad 17 and Dufferin Street in King Township. The police were informed of a woman suffering a slashed throat.

Hilda Roelink was immediately transported to Southlake Regional Health Centre where she was announced dead.

Victim’s body will be sent for post-mortem examination today.

According to the police, a suspect was taken into custody at the scene while the police inquiry continues as officers collect more evidence.

Later, the suspect was identified as Roelink’s son; Andrew Roelink, who was charged with second-degree murder.

Andrew Roelink is scheduled to appear in Newmarket court on Tuesday.

Hilda Roelink’s death was the first homicide of the area in 2012.
