"Khachaturian" and "Jascha Heifetz: God's Fiddler"

American Cinematheque presents a double feature of classical music documentaries at Santa Monica’s historic Aero Theatre. Khachaturian centers on Armenian-Soviet composer Aram Khachaturian, best known for his Gayane ballet suite, which featured in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the iconic "Sabre Dance." It’s a visionary look at the harsh realities and puzzling contradictions artists faced under the Soviet regime. And then there’s the L.A. premiere of Jascha Heifetz: God’s Fiddler, about the man many have called "the first modern violin virtuoso." Both films were directed by Peter Rosen, who will be in discussion with producer Dora Kuhn between the screenings. Learn more…
