On Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 7:50 a.m., police were called to St. Joseph’s College School, located at 74 Wellesley Street West, for a gas leak.
A strong smell of gas in the school caused staff to pull the fire alarm and evacuate the students.
Emergency services attended and located a break in a gas line.
It is alleged that:
– the head custodian of the school entered the building and cut a gas pipe
– he then went to the kitchen area and assisted kitchen staff in lighting the stove
There were no injuries to the staff or students.
Vincent Perna, 67, of Toronto, is charged with:
1. Break and Enter with Intent
2. Mischief Under
3. Mischief Endanger Life
4. Common Nuisance
5. Attempt Murder
6. Attempt Arson: Disregard for Human Life
He appeared in court at Old City on Friday, June 1, 2012, room 101, 10 a.m.
