The heavy rains and floods in Metro Manila, which were brought by the tropical depression Ferdie and much of Northern and Central Luzon in the past two days was likely to be out of the country evening of weekend.
Weather predictors claimed that the Ferdie, with sustained winds of 55 kph, sustained its vigor as it was on its exit direction. Manny Mendoza, the weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the depression, moving at 15 kph, was anticipated at 240 km west northwest of Laoag City (18.6°N, 118.0°E) by 4 p.m. Saturday.
It was forecasted that Ferdie would be out of the Philippines between 8 pm and 10 p.m. and would be heading towards Vietnam and Southern China. But Mendoza said even if Ferdie would be out of the country, due to the southwest monsoon rains would still be probable in Metro Manila by Sunday and Monday.
He said, “There is high possibility we will experience rain and although there will be a gradual weather improvement Sunday. There is also a possibility there would be occasional rains on Monday pero malalaman natin yung cloudiness bukas. Public storm signal number 1 was hoisted over of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra by Saturday afternoon.” He added, “Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under Signal No. 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.”
It was also expected by the PAGASA to enhance the southwest monsoon that would bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
