The Opening Ceremony of the world's biggest sporting event-Olympics 2012 will take off in London at 1:30 AM on Friday.
Thousands of athletes representing 204 countries around the world will congregate at London’s Olympic Stadium to mark the opening of the 30th edition of the sporting extravaganza .The three-hour opening ceremony is expected to draw an estimated global television audience of one billion. This 17 days long athletic event will create heroes, shatter dreams of many and fire national pride.
In few hours, the Isles of Wonder spectacular will welcome the world to east London as the build-up of the last few months suddenly becomes an Olympic movement.
Opening ceremony director Danny Boyle has dedicated the extravaganza to the 15,000 volunteers helping to bring it to life as organisers said they expected a sell-out crowd of 62,000 in the audience at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
Throughout the day, thousands of people have lined the River Thames to cheer the Olympic torch as it made its way across London to the end of its journey.
And bells rang out around the U.K. this morning to mark the final countdown. London's Big Ben enjoined by hundreds of churches across the nation as it chimed non-stop for three minutes to ring in the Games.
Thousands of VIPs including some 120 national leaders are in town for the event, with guests ranging from Angelina Jolie and U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama to the king of Swaziland.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has promised on Thursday that Britain would deliver a memorable Games after U.S. presidential hopeful Mitt Romney delivered his doubts regarding the U.K.’s readiness to host the event.
