The Red Head Gallery is pleased to present All That Sparkles, an exhibition by artist Sam Mogelonsky. Mogelonskys studio practice focuses on the manipulation of light-hearted elements to uncover narratives which are often more serious than appearances first suggest. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, she plays with materials, construction, assembly and display. The result is a series of sculptural works and photographs that question desire, imagination, memory and the nature of anticipation. In this exhibition, Mogelonsky explores the adornment of forms and the handmade. The artist works through repetitive tasks to transform familiar objects into something seductive and strange. The pieces become decorative, playful and obsessive, with a hidden sinister edge. On first encounter, one experiences the works as floating spangled balls of psychedelic fun, however, these objects quickly become frenetically charged upon closer examination. There is nothing blas or carefree about these sparkling orbs: the sequins are secured with sharp pointed pins. Biomorphic in form, Mogelonskys works emerge through an intuitive approach to manipulating materials into abstract forms and shapes.
