The government and opposition have come to a dead-end where neither party is willing to show flexibility on the selection of caretaker Prime Minister. Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz are considered stern on the matter and the ball would most likely be thrown into Election Commission’s court where the Chief Election Commissioner along with his four members would name a caretaker.
Nevertheless, PPP-P is eager to hold one-on-one talks with PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif who is scheduled to return from London today. A delegation from PPP-P is likely to approach Nawaz with fresh prepositions to resolve the issue of caretaker Prime Minister at the first stage.
Nawaz has already summoned a meeting of party leaders in Lahore to review the overall political situation in the country. Opposition Leader Ch Nisar is expected to give a briefing followed by detailed discussion during the meeting. As the matter remains unsolved, more names have emerged for the post, hoping that eventually a dark horse might emerge as the winner.
“More names may be considered for the post of caretaker prime minister because both sides have agreed to discuss new names. Both PPP and PML-N have options to propose any name for the post till the matter is sent to the parliamentary committee… The government has some reservations over the names proposed by the leader of the opposition but we are still ready to listen to the opposition,” PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said.
