L.A.’s Theatre West presents The Women, Clare Booth Luce’s venomous comedy about 1930s Manhattan socialites who casually urge each other into self-destruction for their own amusement. Having no other occupation or purpose, the women manipulate each other to create gossip-column fodder for their entertainment. The Women is wickedly catty with a biting social commentary particular to its time, but today’s women will recognize aspects of the story that ring true to this day. (Real Housewives, anyone?) Arden Teresa Lewis directs.
