Artscape will soon host its second annual fundraiser, Artscape Salon: Picnic in the Park, a fabulous salon-style dinner party with artists and creative industry luminaries, plus silent and live auctions of works by Artscape artists. Presented by BMO Financial Group and Norton Rose, this picnic-themed event will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Daniels Spectrum (585 Dundas Street East). Throughout dinner, the guest speakers will visit tables in a round robin, creating an atmosphere like the salons of long ago, where people met and exchanged ideas. Two hundred guests will have the opportunity to rub shoulders and engage in stimulating conversation with 20 different artists, from a Canadian ballet legend to a Canadian Idol judge, a Broken Social Scene member to an up-and-coming Soprano, an acclaimed street artist to an illustrator whose clients include The New York Times and The Hudsons Bay Company. Confirmed artist speakers include: Dan Bergeron, public artist Ambur Braid, soprano David Buchbinder, musician, composer and cultural inventor Alanna Cavanagh, illustrator and printmaker Sue Cohen, eco-artist Jason Collett, singer-songwriter and Broken Social Scene member Cara Eastcott, community liaison and event producer, Abilities Arts Festival Thompson Egbo-Egbo, jass pianist Mona Filip, Curator, Koffler Gallery Farley Flex, urban music visionary and Canadian Idol judge Clarence Ford, dancer, choreographer, producer and teacher David Macfarlane, writer Richard Marsella, Director, Regent Park School of Music Darren ODonnell, Artistic and Research Director, Mammalian Diving Reflex Komi Olaf, spoken word poet and vidual artist Lisa Rochon, architecture critic for The Globe and Mail and photographer Sam Shuter, fine artist and creative director Tim Svirklys, Studio Manager, ArtHeart Community Art Centre Veronica Tennant, C.C., producer and director, filmmaker, prima ballerina Dan Yashinsky, storyteller, author and community organizer The evening also features silent and live auctions of work by Artscape tenants and artist speakers. Artscape Board Member and Toronto City Councillor Mike Layton will serve as the live auctioneer. Dinner will be provided by some of Torontos top chefs, to be announced. Tickets priced at $95 per person are now on sale at www.artscapesalon2013.com. Proceeds will support Artscape Foundation, the charitable arm of Artscape, a Toronto-based not-for-profit organization that has helped create cultural landmarks like the recently-opened Daniels Spectrum and the award-winning Artscape Wychwood Barns. Artscape Salon: Picnic in the Park will takes place at Daniels Spectrum: a cultural hub in Regent Park. Since opening in September 2012, this colourful facility has become a beacon for arts and cultural, community and social events. Managed by Artscape, the building houses programming and administrative space for seven tenant organizations: ArtHeart Community Art Centre, Centre for Social Innovation (CSI), COBA Collective of Black Artists, Native Earth Performing Arts, Regent Park Film Festival, Regent Park School of Music, and Pathways to Education Regent Park CHC.
