Masha Savitz’s hour-long documentary centers on human-rights lawyer and activist David Matas, who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for exposing a series of shocking crimes in China, where peaceful practitioners of the tolerance and compassion-based religion known as Falun Gong were imprisoned and executed in order to harvest their organs. Interviews with Israeli, American and Canadian doctors, experts on current-day China and a woman who survived 14 months in captivity for practicing Falun Gong are among those who shed light on Matas’ investigation and its outcome. This screening is part of the fourth Annual Awareness Film Festival, which highlights documentaries, shorts and narratives exploring ecology, politics, health and spirituality.
