Theatre Palisades (Pacific Palisades, CA)
Perhaps no perspective on American society has been as perceptive — or as poignant — as that of young Scout Finch, the heroine of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel (Winesburg, Ohio), this moving play follows Scout as she watches her father Atticus defend Tom Robinson, a black man framed for a crime he did not commit. As the trial progresses, Scout and her brother Jem discover that evil (and goodness) can turn up in the unlikeliest of places. Elissa Anne Polansky (Cabaret) directs this stirring portrayal of both racial and family relations for Theatre Palisades, now in its fiftieth season.
