On Sunday, August 22, at approximately 8:15 pm, Sussex RCMP responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Stewart Avenue in Sussex.

A 1/4 ton truck was travelling northbound when the driver lost control, went off the road and rolled the vehicle. The passenger, Annette Cormier, a 47-year-old woman from Sussex, died at the scene. The driver, a 48-year-old Sussex area man, was taken to Saint John Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

An RCMP re-constructionist attended the scene to investigate the cause of the collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. It also appears the passenger was not wearing her seatbelt properly.

The investigation is continuing.
