Transport fares have been hiked by transporters due to the recent violence in some states which threatened to spread but the latest arrangement by the transport sector in Torit will help regulate the prices.
Torit Bus fare Secretary’s Samson Ohide who doubles as Bus Registrar for two routes, Torit- Juba and Torit-Kapoeta/Loriyok, has disclosed to Gurtong that Torit-Kapoeta/Loriyok town one way travel has been paid for per passenger at 80 South Sudan Pounds (SSP) from previously 70 SSP, while Torit-Ikotwo town now costs 70 SSP up from 60 SSP.
The rise in fares was additionally part of the annual increase because citizens started marching from different towns to their upcountry homes for the Christmas holidays.
Earlier on, bus fares from Juba to Torit was 150 SSP one way but it was opposite in Torit as customers paid only 80 SSP to Juba one way, transport officials in Torit informed Gurtong.
While Bus fares for other upcountry routes from Torit to other towns like Kapoeta, Ikwoto and Loriyok have their fares based on destinations’, fuel scarcity threaten to evaporate in various stations in any parts of the state, dealers have revealed.
Also earlier on, observers noted that since it was the opportunistic period, the main dealers would take advantage to acquire or make more money despite crisis.
