Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who has repeatedly mentioned that he intends to participate in re-elections, is anticipated to officially file his nomination papers for Toronto’s 2014 election at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning at City Hall. Thursday is going to be the first day for any candidate for mayor or council to file the paperwork required for starting their campaign, which will continue until the fall to register for the Oct. 27 municipal election.
Mayor Ford’s immediate initiation of the campaign has come almost two months after Toronto Police exposed having had found an unambiguous video showing the mayor smoking crack cocaine. Furthermore, the police also arrested Ford’s alleged close friend Alexander “Sandro” Lisi on extortion charges at the same time. Soon after the scandal emerged, Mayor Ford himself admitted having had smoked crack, but labeled the incident to be a “drunken stupor.” Consequently, Mayor Ford was asked by his council, allies, supporters and many others to resign or at least take some time off to attend rehab. However, in light of complete denial and ignorance, the council voted to forcefully strip him of most of his mayoral powers and transferred them to Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly.
According to the Police, their investigation dubbed Project Brazen 2 is still ongoing. However, regardless of the ongoing controversy, Mayor Ford has openly mentioned at several occasions that he intends to seek reelection. During a recent interview, Ford alleged that he did not touch “a drop” of alcohol since Nov. 1.
