A recent poll conducted by CROP for La Presse has found that the tussle between Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcairis in Quebec has gotten even closer than before, but the NDP might be in a slight lead. CROP interviewed a total of 1,000 Quebecers as a sample between April 17 and 21. According to the poll results, New Democrats are in a small lead with 33 per cent support against 32 per cent for the Liberals.
Statistics show that there is a minor improvement of two points for the NDP compared to CROP’s last poll from mid-March. Whereas on the other hand, the Liberals faced an even smaller decline of one point, though they have a long declining trend line as the party has tumbled in the last three consecutive CROP polls from 40 per cent in Quebec in January. Meanwhile, the New Democrats have somewhat improved their position as the party hovered between 27 and 33 per cent in CROP’s polling for the last year, with no obvious trend.
However, the NDP leader has certainly gained support as upon inquiry about who would make the best prime minister, Mulcair topped the list with 31 per cent, i.e. a gain of five points since March. In addition to that, CROP also reports that it’s his best result since June 2013. On the other hand, Trudeau’s support declined to 24 per cent, i.e. his worst result since becoming leader in April 2013.
