Archway Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)

The Tempest tells the story of Prospero, an exiled duke who lives as the master of an enchanted isle where fantastical creatures, mystery, music and romance abound. A shipwreck delivers Prospero’s enemies to the island, and the plot thickens when his beloved daughter falls for the enemy’s son. It’s a magical tale about the transformative power of forgiveness and the bond between parent and child. It’s also believed to be the last play Shakespeare wrote alone. In this version, director Michael Shane Eastman, an accomplished illusionist, is adding plenty of magical elements and changing the setting to Victorian times. You’ll be right in the action from the moment you enter the lobby, where the audience will become guests at a Tunisian wedding before boarding a “ship” for their return voyage and getting caught up in a tremendous storm that finds them (and the cast) shipwrecked on Prospero’s island. Whether you’re familiar with the story or not you’ll get swept up in this magical version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
