The Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak this Friday turned down a light-hearted request for a sick leave from his youth and sports minister, who claimed that he was ill after watching the opening game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, according to the news reported by Bernama News Agency.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jalamuddin Abu Bakar tweeted Mr Najib soon after the match at around dawn local time to say that he had a fever and that his body ached.”Sorry I can’t go to work today, I will send the medical certificate slip tomorrow,” Mr Khairy tweeted in Malay to Mr Najib. Mr Najib ignored the plea, however, and tweeted back in English: “@KhairyKJ glad you felt well enough to come for cabinet meeting.” Mr Khairy joined nearly 1,000 people to watch the opening game of the World Cup between Brazil and Croatia on a giant screen installed in front of a park in Kuala Lumpur, the state-run Bermana news agency reported.

“Its only the first day of the World Cup and many (including myself) are looking like cats (Khairy Twitter’s profile picture) but adamantly refused to admit it,” he added. The Malaysian employers are bracing for a decline in the productivity during the month long Football Worldcup 2014,as workers arrive late, perform below their capacity, or don’t show up at all.
