Upon his arrival at the provincial courthouse, Peterborough MP Dean Del Mastro was unexpectedly greeted by a masked man on Monday morning, who rushed up to him and said that we “hope the judge has mercy on you because we won’t.” The masked man wore a T-shirt that said Anonymous across the front.
MP Del Mastro approached the courthouse with his wife, Kelly Del Mastro, and mother, Yvonne Del Mastro. After facing the protestor, Mastro chuckled and replied while laughing that “I see Halloween has come early.” At the time of his hearing, MP Del Masto’s case was reported by local and Toronto media on Monday morning prior to his first day of trial at the provincial courthouse. The trial will look into and determine whether or not MP Del Mastro is guilty of the accusations, which claim he broke spending laws during his 2008 campaign.
Officials claim that the trial is anticipated to run at least three weeks and will positively focus on an accusation that Del Mastro covered up a $21,000 personal contribution to his campaign, among other allegations. In case the MP is found guilty by the court, he might have to face up to $5,000 fine and up to five years in jail. Officials confirm that the trial is expected to run from June 23 to 27, July 2 to 4 and July 7 to 11 in Peterborough at the Simcoe Street courthouse.
