Doctors have confirmed that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is believed to have a tumour in his abdomen, however the true scope of his diagnosis will be finalized within a few days. The news was confirmed during a press conference held by the president and CEO of Humber River Hospital, Dr. Rueben Devlin, on Wednesday night, along with the mayor’s brother Coun. Doug Ford by his side.

Doug Ford could be seen upset as he asked for privacy for himself and his family. Whereas, Doug Ford also refrained from answering any questions about the implication of the mayor’s health on his mayoral campaign. Ford stated that “it saddens me that I have to be here today,” and added that “Rob is in good spirits and I want to thank the well-wishers.” In his remarks, Ford revealed that he was with the mayor on Wednesday morning at Perkins, when Rob Ford complained about abdominal pain. After which he went to see his doctor who urged him to go to the hospital immediately.

The mayor has been admitted to Humber River Hospital and will remain there until further notice. Devlin refused to comment on how long Ford will be out of commission, stating that “I can’t comment on that.” He explained that the mayor has felt abdominal pain for about three months, but today it became “unbearable.” The tumor has been confirmed by a CT scan, but a biopsy is needed to determine if the mayor has cancer. Devlin stated that the size of the tumour “is not as relevant as what it is,” adding that “doctors need to do a biopsy to determine what the tumour is.”
