On Tuesday March 8th, Greater Sudbury Police were called to Countryside Arena with regard to an assault complaint.

Through investigation it was learned that during the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association Hockey Championship that was being hosted at Countryside Arena, a hockey official (referee) was assaulted by a player during the course of a game.

The referee sustained a minor head injury when he was assaulted causing him to fall and hit is head on the ice surface.

Several witnesses needed to be located and interviewed to determine what had happened. As a result of this investigation a 19 year old Sudbury man has been arrested for assault. He was released this evening with a court date.
