Crown withdraws charges in Audrey Gleave murder case

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the December 30, 2010 homicide of 73-year-old Audrey Gleave. Through its investigation, Hamilton Police made an arrest on February 10, 2011. On review of the forensic evidence, today the Crown has withdrawn the charges.

The Audrey Gleave homicide remains under active investigation by the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit.

Background

December 30, 2010 – Hamilton Police were called to Indian Trail Rd., Ancaster shortly before 11:00 a.m.

Audrey Gleave, 73 years, who lived alone was found by a friend in the residence. She was the obvious victim of a homicide.

The initial police investigation indicates that the perpetrator/perpetrators were strangers and the motive may include a sexual component.

The police are appealing to anyone that knows the deceased or who may have had contact with her in the past week to call the police. We are attempting to retrace her last movements and contacts over this time frame.

We are asking area residents to contact us with any suspicious activity that they might have seen in the area during this time frame.

In addition we caution the area residents to be vigilant of anything out of the ordinary.
