On Wednesday, June 29, 2011, The Honourable Michelle Fuerst of the Superior Court of Justice, sentenced Nadeem JIWA to 12 years less time served. As a result, Mr. JIWA will spend another four years and two months in custody. He was also given a lifetime weapons prohibition, will be prohibited from operating a motor vehicle for 10 years and was ordered to provide a mandatory DNA sample.
On Thursday, April 28, 2011, a jury found Mr. JIWA guilty of Manslaughter following a trial that began on Monday, March 28, 2011. The jury deliberated for two days before reaching its verdict.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, August 2, 2007, members working out of the Special Services Unit were investigating two suspect vehicles involved in airbag thefts in the area of Ascot Crescent and Harvest Moon Drive, in the Town of Markham. At approximately 5 a.m., the surveillance team moved in to arrest the suspects. Mr. JIWA attempted to flee and as a result, critically injured Detective Constable Plunkett, a member of the investigating surveillance team. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Mr. JIWA has been in custody since his arrest on Thursday, August 2, 2007.
Our judges are to lenient on these criminals 4 years for manslaughter must not carry weapons and is prohibited from driving. What’s the judge been smoking.
