An accident on Prospect Road in Halifax killed a man. Initially a loud explosion was heard and later it was found out that a can of gasoline in the man’s vehicle caused the blast. The tragic event took place roughly sometime between 0900hrs and 1000hrs, Thursday morning.

According to the Halifax police, the vehicle driver purchased the gas can at the Irving station on Prospect Road. Moreover, bystanders informed the cops that there was a blast in the vehicle the instant he left the station. The car was a Buick LeSabre.

Cops and emergency units remained on the scene for quite some time, collecting evidence and preventing vehicles and general public to pass the Evergreen Place. One of the witnesses, Amar Mejbel informed the police seeing the Buick LeSabre blast soon after leaving the gas station. He said: “(There was) an explosion right away,” he said. “I see the fire is coming from everywhere – from inside the car, from the four windows.”

Mejbel said he was the first one to call 911 for help. He added: “I can’t help him because the fire is too strong. I feel sorry about that.”

On the other hand, the staff of Irving station refused to answer any questions and HRP is unable to identify the victim.
