On Wednesday, a female student died during the shooting at SFU’s Surrey campus parkade, RCMP have confirmed. The police department has not officially disclosed the victim’s identity, but she is said to be an Indo-Canadian model and actress, Maple Batalia, who was studying at SFU.

The cops were told about the shootout at the parkade at 13450 102 Ave. around 1:10 a.m. PT, according Sgt. Peter Thiessen. As soon as they reached the crime scene, they found the girl on the third level of the four-storey parkade. The officials began CPR and the victim was taken to hospital, where she passed away.

Thiessen said: “Further investigation indicated that this was clearly a homicide.”

Cops denied giving any information about the suspects in the case. RCMP is trying to conclude if it is a targeted homicide, said Thiessen.

Thiessen says, “We understand the public may be concerned that we’re not able to provide more information regarding the reasons behind this shooting, but it’s simply too early in the investigation to make any further statements.”

Moreover, RCMP says that SFU students on the Surrey campus are at not at any risk.
