Elderly Mississauga woman Caterina Lavecchia fatally struck by vehicle

Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau are appealing for witnesses to a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

On Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 9:54 a.m., the victim, Caterina Lavecchia , a 71 year-old Mississauga woman was walking with a friend, a 69 year-old Mississauga woman near the Central Parkway Mall, located at 277 Central Parkway in Mississauga.

Both women were struck by a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, operated by a 79 year-old Mississauga man.

Mrs Lavecchia was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.  The second pedestrian received minor injuries, and the driver of the motor vehicle was not injured.
