Ali Khamenei & Hashemi RafsanjaniIran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has named the new members of the Expediency Council.

According to the decree, which was published on Khamenei’s official website, the leader has reappointed Hashemi Rafsanjani for another five-year term as the head of the Council.

The body adjudicates differences between the Guardian Council and the parliament (Majlis).

While Rafsanjani has been the chairman of the Expediency Council for three consecutive terms, some had speculated that Khamenei would not allow the 77-year-old to hold his position again.

Other members of the Council include: the head of the executive branch, the head of judiciary, the speaker of parliament, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and the six clerics in the twelve member Guardian Council.
