The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has raised concerns over procurement and contract procurement lapses in six ministries in the Parliament session of Wednesday.

The PAC consisting of eight members of the parliament expressed their concerns in the session of the parliament yesterday saying that the lapses found in the government ministries is a matter of grave concern putting the principles of procurement of the government at the risk. They also mentioned that this could affect the principles of the government in a bad way challenging their stance of fair and open competition, value for money, and transparency. Several cases are coming to light where the government has been overcharged and in some cases there are no means left to recover the losses the government had to face.

Submitting the formal report of PAC on Thursday, the committee has also officially written to four ministries and demanded an explanation of the management lapses. The ministries receiving the official letter from PAC include the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Arts. The other two ministries which have yet not received an official letter demanding explanation but have been pointed by the PAC to have seen management lapses include the Ministry of Community Development, Youth, and Sports, and the Ministry of Media Development.
