Asghar Mahmoudian, a political prisoner detained during opposition protests in late 2009, has been sentenced to six years in jail plus exile to Semnan.

According to the Committee of Human Rights Reporters, Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, sentenced Mahmoudian to six years in prison.

The sixty-year-old and his wife, Kefayat Malek Mohammadi, were detained while taking part in opposition protests on 27 December 2009. Since their arrest more than 2 ½ years ago, the couple have been kept in a state of limbo in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison.

Malek Mohammadi faces a five-year jail-term after being charged with colluding and conspiring to act against national security.
