The Weightlifting competition will take place from 28 July – 7 August at the Excel and where a total of 260 athletes – 156 men and 104 women – challenging their powers to win a medal. There are 15 medals categories events – 8 for men and 7 for women. Athletes need to contend on a platform, which is 4m x 4m and 10cm high.

Men’s Weightlifting launched at the first contemporary Olympic Games in 1896, with women’s Weightlifting brought in at Sydney 2000.

China's four-time world champion Wang Mingjuan will be going to start Weightlifting gold at London 2012 as this is her first Olympic Games after missing out in previous two Olympic games.

Today afternoon game begins with the women's 48kg weight category.

Thailand's Panida Khamsri, Japan's Hiromi Miyake and Turkey's Nurdan Karagoz are the tough contenders for this game along with China’s Wang Mingjuan.

Karagoz got an injury two years back but now she has overcome huge injury challenges due to recent years practice to get to the place where she is at the moment, however now she is in no doubt going into the Games.
