furlongVancouver Olympics CEO, John Furlong, was a teacher at different schools almost four decades ago, which are now facing a national class action lawsuit. This case alleges a major systemic abuse of First Nations youth at these religious schools. The case details are based on twenty students of ‘Immaculata Elementary’ in Burns Lake and ‘Prince George College’ asserting that they were abused.

Joan Jack, lawyer of the said law suit, has clarified that none of the allegations has directly reported Furlong to be involved in the crime. She stated that “the students who talked to me were hurt.” She claimed that “the mission was to kill the Indian in the child. It didn’t matter whether it was a residential school or a day school, that was the mandate.” Regarding Furlong, now employed chair of the Vancouver Whitecaps, Jack stated that “I’d never heard of the man before I watched the news last night.”

A story published in The Georgia Straight newspaper had alleged Furlong for physical abuse of eight former students at those schools. Interestingly, a former student of Burns Lake, Beverley Abraham, has reported to RCMP in June that she was sexually touched by Furlong at Immaculata Elementary in 1969. Abraham stated in the news that she was 12 at the time and said that “I know when someone touches you in a private spot it’s wrong.” “I know when someone touches you in the breast it’s wrong.”

This Thursday during a press conference Furlong denied any allegation blaming him of physical and sexual abuse. It has been officially confirmed that The RCMP are investigating the case against Furlong though, so far, nothing has been proved in court.
