The Health Minister of Singapore, Gan Kim Yong announced this Saturday that the Singapore’s pioneer generation will get the highest amount of subsidies for outpatient care under the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS). He made this revelation at a dinner celebrating the World Family Doctor’s day at the Marina Bay Sands.
He further added that this generation has been unique and thus will get unique subsidies which are better than those giver to lower and middle income household of Singapore. To explain this he added that a subsidy of S$28.50 will be given upon common illnesses like cough and flu. For complex chronic diseases and conditions they will receive upto S$540 subsidies in a year. The amount for special dental services could range between S$21 and S$266.50 per procedure for pioneers, compared to between S$11 and S$256.50 per procedure for those on the Blue tier. These subsidies depend on the type of procedures done.
Mr Gan said, “As with all CHAS beneficiaries, pioneers who are assessed to require specialist care can also be referred by CHAS clinics to the Specialist Outpatient Clinics (SOCs) in the public healthcare institutions as subsidised patients. They no longer need a referral letter from our polyclinics.” He further added that all who belong to the pioneer generation will get a Pioneer Generation Card by September with special CHAS benefits included in it.
