On Thursday August 18, 2011 at approximately 3:57 p.m. officers from North Division were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist. A Chevrolet pick-up vehicle driven by a 59-year-old Beaverton male was northbound on Brock Road and passing a cyclist also northbound on Brock Road. The Chevrolet was observed by a witness drifting outside its marked lane when the cyclist was struck.
The female cyclist received serious-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced as deceased. The male driver was uninjured.
Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Investigators have determined that road and weather conditions were favorable at the time of the collision. Police determined that alcohol was not considered a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing and charges may be pending.
