FC EdmontonPorter, Saiko and Misiewicz Could Represent Canada in London

FC Edmonton striker Kyle Porter got quite the birthday present from the Canadian Soccer Association Wednesday as he and two of his teammates were invited to the Canadian Olympic team’s qualifying camp in mid-March.

Porter, midfielder Shaun Saiko and new trialist ‘keeper Michal Misiewicz all got the email from the CSA’s Morgan Quarry on Wednesday.

“It’s an honour to get a call from my country on a day like today, my birthday, because it’s another opportunity to play at a high level while wearing the red and white,” Porter said. “It’s one of the best presents I can ask for because it’s a chance to live a dream, a chance to make it to the Olympics!”

Saiko is equally as pleased as his teammate, according to the team’s leading scorer.

“It’s been a while since my last call up and that kind of bothered me but obviously I played well last season so this means a lot. It’s a proud moment that’s for sure,” Saiko said. “It’s nice that people know about FC Edmonton now and that goes to show that we doing things right.”

Misiewicz, who started training with the Edmonton squad this week, will join his teammates in Fort Lauderdale.

The three Eddies will join 27 other hopefuls in Fort Lauderdale for Canada’s training camp Mar. 13-20. The Olympic Qualifying Tournament runs in Nashville from Mar. 22-April 2.
