A burning white smoke appeared on 5th April 2012 near Eastern SPLA’s Academic Centre (PAE) and a kilometre away from Alur chief Madheiu Madut Kon’s residential area of Gar-Gar.
The unknown natural phenomenon has affected a distance of 20 meters from its origin and deeply burned the soil from black into brown colour in its trail and also transforming small stones into ash.
Last Sunday morning (8/4/2012) traditional chiefs interceded while sacrificing a black ram as an offering claim just incase it’s a spiritual matter.
The incident has been ignored since it has never happened in Western Bahr el Ghazal state particularly in Mapel area but fears raised within the SPLA division 5 headquarters in Mapel since it’s within their camp.
Questions remain as to how Mapel hill was formed long time ago even after Gurtong tried to interview some elders over the historical accounts.
Mapel elders called for an emergency intervention through international scientific analysis to survey the area to unveil the natural mystery.
