This award-winning play by George Brant mixes fact and historical fiction to create a drama based on a terrible tragedy in 1916 small-town Tennessee. When the Sparks World Famous Shows Circus first arrives, the starved-for-excitement townspeople are thrilled to welcome them. But when one of the show’s performers is involved in a horrific crime, the town quickly turns against the struggling troupe, whipping themselves into a frenzy of revenge, and revealing the American craving for spectacle and violence in the name of justice.
