Two giant-killers who own the ability of disturbing set calculations will be up against each other when New Zealand and Bangladesh clash in their opening Group D match of the World Twenty20 on Friday.
Bangladesh have so far played 9 matches in World T20 and won only against West Indies in the inaugural edition of the World Cup at South Africa in 2007.
While New Zealand on the other hand have played 16 matches in World T20 including all the three editions, and have registered 8 wins, and with these stats their winning percentage is 50% in the World Cup. New Zealand, also playing its first match in the tournament and the first against Bangladesh, is just hoping to perform well against the Asian minnows, as Daniel Vettori, Rob Nicol and Tim Southee suffered a stomach infection.
After their recent performance against India, Kiwis stand a chance to dominate Bangladesh and start favourites for today’s clash as they have the right balance. They hold the advantage of fielding well and managed to go past the first stage in all the three editions. The probable New Zealand squad include: Ross Taylor (Captain), Martin Guptill, Rob Nicol, Brendon McCullum, Kane Williamson, BJ Watling (wicketkeeper), James Franklin, Jacob Oram, Nathan McCullum, Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills, Doug Bracewell, Tim Southee, Ronnie Hira, Adam Milne.
This time New Zealand are placed in a tough group along with sub-continent heavy weights, Pakistan and Bangladesh. While Pakistan are a side to be feared constantly, Bangladesh are not a side to just make up the numbers either. With a strong array of spinners, Bangladesh will pose more than a challenge for New Zealand. The likely Bangladesh line up include: Mushfiqur Rahim (Captain, wicketkeeper), Mohammed Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Junaid Siddique, Jahurul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Ziaur Rahman, Elias Sunny, Abdur Razzak, Mashrafe Mortaza, Shafiul Islam, Farhad Reza, Abul Hasan.
